Cary Arrest Records Split
The paperwork for one arrest can live in two places. Cary police write the city incident or arrest report. From there, adults go into the Wake County detention system, and the Wake County Detention Center is the main destination. The county's Bureau of Forensic Services, once called CCBI, runs the official consolidated arrest record and booking photo. That split has practical effects. A Cary report can surface while the county photo is still processing, and an older county entry can linger after the city case moves to court.
Cary ranks second among Wake's municipalities. The July 1, 2024 state estimate puts the town at 187,378 residents. That number is context, not an arrest count. Cary Police handle town-policed events. The Sheriff runs county detention. Case outcomes belong to North Carolina eCourts and the Wake clerk.
Where Cary Recent Arrests Appear
Cary does run an official municipal bulletin. It is an incident and report system, though, not a full booking-photo roster. Check government channels first, before news sites or republished lists.
| Channel | Use | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Cary P2C Daily Bulletin | Town incidents and available reports | Official city source; not county custody |
| Wake BFS | Consolidated arrest record and available photo | Official county record |
| Wake detention | Facility contacts and local custody | Official; no guaranteed live photo roster |
| eCourts | Case progress and outcome | Official court record |
| Triangle news outlets | Selected cases and later reporting | Editorial, not exhaustive |
| Wake booking republishers | Copied entries that may carry a Cary label | Unofficial and time-sensitive |
The Wake database reaches back to April 27, 2007. Even so, the Bureau warns it may miss some arrests. Old coverage does not equal a live list of Cary detainees. Check custody through a separate channel.
Use Cary’s Daily Bulletin
Cary calls its Police-to-Citizen tool a searchable incident and report system. It spans 2014 to the present. You can filter by date, incident type, report number, or name. Results can then be printed or emailed. That fits a Cary police event. It does not replace a Wake booking photograph.
Timing takes care. Cary says a local report can take 24 to 48 hours. That clock starts after the officer files it. Older guidance allowed up to 48 hours for an incident to reach P2C. That clock is municipal only. A Wake booking photo may not follow the same schedule. It also says nothing about whether someone is still jailed. Check the date each source displays, and note when you pulled it.
Find Someone Arrested in Cary
Work the city and county sources in order, so one record type is never mistaken for another.
- Search Cary P2C by date, incident type, report number, or name for the police event.
- Check Wake BFS for an arrest entry and available booking photograph.
- Compare full name, date, agency, charge, and other identifiers.
- Use Wake detention contacts or NC SAVAN/VINELink for present custody.
- Ask Cary Records for the town report when P2C has no usable copy.
- Check eCourts for hearings and disposition after the charge is filed.
Wake's newest public view is labeled Last 48 Hours of Arrests. Posting lags, and Wake sets no fixed time. Once a record ages out of that window, try the date-range arrest route. It covers a wider span. Its documented bulk search allows up to six months per query. A historical entry still does not certify custody.
Request Cary Police Records
The Cary Records Unit handles accident, arrest, and incident reports. Email recordsinfo@carync.gov or fax 919-460-4904. Walk in at 120 Wilkinson Avenue, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding holidays. Missing a report number? Call 919-469-4021. Cary says local reports generally cost nothing. That city policy does not extend to a Wake certified arrest-record search.

Name the person or incident, give an approximate date, add the report number if you have it, state the document you want, and say how you'd like it delivered. Cary issues the city report. Wake BFS issues the consolidated arrest record and any releasable photo. Sheriff-created reports go through Wake Sheriff Records. These offices are not interchangeable.
Cary Arrest Statistics Need Context
Cary's official budget carries a useful fiscal-year arrest table. It lists 1,462 adult arrests in FY2016. FY2017 shows 1,225, and FY2018 shows 1,533. FY2019 shows 1,512, and the figure for FY2020 drops to 1,047. The counts climb again. FY2021 shows 1,085, FY2022 shows 1,345, and FY2023 shows 1,397. FY2024 reaches 1,647, and FY2025 tops the decade at 1,818. These numbers measure the municipality over time. They are not a Wake booking count, a name list, or proof about any individual.
Don't blend the category with incident-map totals or county jail population. One event can generate several records. City boundaries differ from county service areas too. For a named person, go back to the city report, the Wake booking entry, the custody source, and the court file. Do not lean on an annual trend.
Cary Booking and Custody Paths
Custody status shapes where to look. A freshly booked arrestee typically appears in Wake's record once intake wraps and the entry goes public. Someone held right now needs the detention center or NC SAVAN/VINELink. Release does not erase history. The arrest stays in the system after a person walks out. State sentences, probation, and parole point to the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction locator instead, and that tool leaves out county jail records. Photo questions follow the same split. Cary P2C holds no county booking photos. Wake BFS can attach a photo to a public arrest record. A missing photo proves nothing either way. The official Wake County Detention Center page names the primary adult detention site.

That page routes Cary custody questions but never replaces the historical Wake BFS arrest search.
Cary Arrest Coverage Elsewhere
WRAL, The News & Observer, and ABC11 all cover selected Cary and Wake arrests. Their stories add agency statements and court updates. Coverage is selective. An article's image may be a scene shot, a file photo, or an editorial picture rather than the county booking photo. Other sites play a looser game. RecentlyBooked, Arrests.org, Mugshots.zone, and Muglist may post Wake records credited to Cary Police. None is official. Counts, custody labels, and photos can conflict with the source record. Check them only after the town and county channels. Confirm details through Cary Records, Wake BFS, detention, and eCourts; Wake lists no current local page for Busted Newspaper or Mugshots.com, so skip guessed addresses.
When Cary Arrest Reports Lag
Timing here runs on two clocks. A Cary report lands in the municipal system after the officer files and the town processes it. Wake's booking entry waits on county intake, fingerprinting, photography, review, and publication. The two records may not appear together. Weekends and holidays follow no special Wake schedule. If the county portal redirects, read its live disclaimer. Wake announced a shift from internet access to public kiosks, then postponed the August 17, 2026 start date. Online instructions age fast. The official disclaimer points to kiosk access at the Public Safety Center and the Wake County Detention Center while the transition sits unsettled.
